![]() So Check it out do what you think is correct for you. Dell Tech support is pushing the Dell support update and Dell update Assist. I'm not sure what 3.1 will do on a compatible notebook, mine was not on the list as compatible and for me installing 3.1 only uninstalled 3.0 and installed Dell support update, and Dell update assist. So I highly recommend Dell Command Update ver 3.0 tool. I do not like any automatic driver install tool and BIOS updates through these Automatic install tool are just plain dangerous. the 4th showed my this tool and the Intel IO driver solved my issue. This solved an issue I was experiencing and showed my an Intel IO driver that Dell update and Dell Assist could not find including 3 different support techs. Installing 3.0 will auto uninstalled Dell update and Dell update Assist. If you install the Version 3.1 it only installs Dell Assist etc. I learned though Dell Support Pro Plus about a tool they use " Dell Command Update" Version 3.0 is a user control update tool you select what updates are installed and when. I have all Dell Assist programs uninstalled besides the Power management option. There's a portable version available too, which lets you browse through current file locks on the system, but do bear in mind that forcing actions like this can affect the stability of your system, so only use something like Unlocker as a last resort.I'll add my 2 Cents worth. ![]() It'll tell you what programs are currently accessing that file, and allow you either to kill the offending processes (risky) or remove the locks (less so). Unlocker (opens in new tab) is a handy solution to locked files – install it (dodging the automatic toolbar shenanigans in the installer), dig up the file you're trying to delete, right-click it, and find Unlocker in the context menu. This issue has been lessened somewhat by User Account Control, thankfully, but it still happens. You might also see unfriendly and unhelpful messages like 'Access is denied', or talk of sharing violations. Windows sensibly locks down certain files that are in use if you try to delete a program that's currently running, for example, it'll instead pop up an error message moaning about the file being in use. See Kill process before (re)install using 'taskkill /f /im' in Inno Setup. The installer has restart manager built-in. If you run into this problem, Unlocker can help restore access 4. Note that for installer, you do not have to code this. If a file is in use, Windows will lock it down so you can't delete it. If you ever decide you need these apps back, just run this powershell command: I've already rebooted my system and it is gone. Then go to your control panel and 'Uninstall' that program. Click the icon and then click 'Shutdown'. Click it and you'll see the 'knctr icon'.
